If you take a look at most of the descriptions of Port Fairy, they will tell you that Port Fairy is a town in South Western Victoria with a population of 2,500 people. ".....a unique fishing village on the Shipwreck Coast that features an historic working fishing port, 50 National Trust classified buildings dating from the village's seafaring and whaling days, rugged coastlines and secluded swimming beaches. It is famous for the International Port Fairy Folk Festival held each March...." Here's a little bit more. Swimming Beaches ![]() There is so much information about the heritage buildings and the wharf in Port Fairy, that we sometimes forget to remind you that we are a coastal town and have fantastic swimming beaches. Perfect for hot days in summer and even better some say for rugging up and taking a romantic stroll in the cooler months. There is a lifesaving club at the East Beach or you can swim and explore the rock pools at Pea Soup Beach. Port Fairy also has a surf school with qualified instructors, boards and wetsuits supplied, if you've decided that it's time to learn to surf. Arts & Crafts A wide range of galleries locally and in the surrounding towns, specialising in lead light, glass, jewellery, pottery, scarves, mixed media... all close by. Ask for an arts walk map at the Port Fairy Visitor Information Centre and spend a day doing the Art Walk. Here are some of the attractions:

We have more than our share of boutique homeware and lifestyle stores - a nice surprise that you may not expect in a smaller sized town. The Kite House is famous, Belfast Emporium is a treasure trove of collectable's & souvenirs, Lizzies with its eclectic mix of imported jewellery & fashion ... etc, etc. You would travel far to find a more diverse and comprehensive range. Attractions ![]() So do you spend all of your time sipping good coffee and shopping, or would you like to do something a little more active? The Port Fairy Visitor Information Centre has a wealth of information about things to see and do in the area. To quote from their brochure, “...stroll past historical cottages and buildings. Walk around Griffith's Island, see the Lighthouse. Explore the wharf area...” Here are some of the attractions and activities that they list:
Port Fairy Golf Links is Victoria's 5th best public access Golf course. It skirts the Southern Ocean, less than 5 minutes drive from the centre of town. It has 18 holes, a PGA Pro Shop, equipment for hire, reasonable fees and a challenging course suitable for golfers of all standards. For Golf bookings and enquiries, the Pro Shop phone number is (03) 5568 2866. Horse Riding There are beach and trail rides available nearby. You may need to make a booking. Here's one at Killarney to try - Great Ocean Road Horse Trail Rides. There are others. Festivals and Events There are many festivals in this area throughout the year.
